African Pompano

Well, another week of hot weather has past and we have seen some nice fish. The surf is giving up some decent Flounder from any structure such as pier pilings, old wrecks, drain pipes and even rocks and deep holes. Both piers continue to report catches of Spanish Mackerel and Blue Fish. Blues are feeding on Got-Cha-Plugs. In the afternoon, Croakers and Whiting are feeding on shrimp. The surf is still producing some nice fish with lots of Croaker, some Blue Fish and of course Whiting and Flounder. Just offshore, Spanish Mackerel are still very thick and we have seen catches in excess of six pounds. King Mackerel are growing to the twenty-plus pound range and are offshore starting at five-miles out. Bottom fishing is fantastic with lots of Grouper and some big Hog Snappers along with some good size African Pompano. Check out the pair of sixteen pounders in the photo section. If you have a boat that can make the Gulf Stream or are planning a Charter trip, Wahoo and big Dolphin are all over the break.
