Cape Fear River Is The Place To Be

Slow improvements are better than none at all I guess. If you want to catch Virginia Mullet, The Cape Fear River is the place to be. Try down around Bald Head Island on a falling tide. That’s the best time. Last week we caught lots of three quarter pound mullet and some Hammer Handle Grey Trout. Red Drum are still down on the flats and most creek mouths. In fact, some small Menhaden have moved into the mouth of the dredge pond and down around the lower section of the river. Both piers are catching some small Whiting and a few Blue Fish have been landed mainly on the early morning tide. Offshore, Black Sea Bass still rule the bottom but the Grouper are moving in. In fact, these pair of Grouper were caught about twenty-miles out. Of course, the tower is still the place to go if you want a shot at Tuna or big Wahoo. I have not heard much about King Mackerel yet, but I am sure they are not far off. Water temperatures should start rising rapidly so I suggest you get ready for some great spring fishing. Let’s get fishing! Keep fishin and releasin… Steve and Karen Labanec Seagull Bait and Tackle 910-458-7135
