Hi Folks,

I have just returned from a great inland striper fishing trip in Georgia, but more about that later. Fishing has exploded here in the Wrightsville Beach to the Cape Fear area. Water temps are in the mid 60’s. Looks like we have some weather coming in Thursday but hopefully this weekend should bring good fishing. Now her’s my report:

INSHORE: Everything is biting; trout, reds and flounder. For me this is the time of the year I like fishing artificials. Topwater lures work well as do jig heads with your favorite soft plastic. Don’t forget to spray them with a fish attractant to get rid of the “plastic taste”. I am liking the falling tide.

NEAR SHORE: The Spanish are Still Biting! Captain Jimmy Vass of Fortune Hunter Charters reports king mackerel in the under 10 mile areas with his largest this past weekend at 25 pounds. Lots of false albacore are around as well. Near the inlets the blues are biting everything, particularly near the top of the rising tide.

OFFSHORE: More and more kings, but don’t go too far. They are in relatively close. Kings are biting live bait, ballyhoo and cigar minnows.

GULFSTREAM: The wahoo bite continues with blackfin and some mahi joining the gulfstream catch.

CAPE FEAR: Lots of trout are biting as well as some nice flounder and reds.

UPCOMING PLUS: Look for the fall bite to continue. The water temps are nearly perfect for just about everything. What has been a so-so year has finally become very good on the fishing front.
My first inland striper fishing trip was in NE Georgia. I fished at Watts Bar dam (actually in SE TN) and Nottely Lake. We caught several nice stripers up to 28 pounds. We also caught some blue cats and some flat heads as well. It was a great trip and beautiful country.

Until Next Time…LET’S GO FISHING!!!
