Fishing report is basically about the same as last week. Catching some red drum & speckled trout (even though you can’t keep any).

At the mouth of the Cape Fear a few Virginia mullet are starting to show up & some small croaker.

Up the river there are still some reports of striped bass being caught (can’t keep any of these either).

If anyone would like to have your voice heard on the ban on speckled trout you can email me at captaincarty@bellsouth.net. I will post any comments next week in the Island Gazette & at cbfishing.com. My personal experience & in talking to my fellow fishermen friends there is no shortage of speckled trout. Several trips this past fall to Carolina Beach inlet we caught & released anywhere from 50 to 100 speckled trouts per trip.

I understand the size limit but not being able to keep any seems to be a bit much. Think of the small businesses this affects, tackle shops, fishing guides, etc. Keep fishing & stay safe.
