The water temperature has warmed up quite a bit this past week & is now about 52 degrees.

The red drum bite is starting to pick up. We are catching most of them around the Bald Head Island area. Also catching a few speckled trout in the same area.

Around Southport starting to catch a few black bass, a few Virginia mullet, small croaker, & a few small pigfish.

Up the Cape Fear River towards Wilmington there are reports of a few nice size striped bass, some red drum, & speckled trout.

The moratorium has now taken a different course with the Marine Fisheries. You can’t keep any speckled trout until June 15th due to the spawning season. I wonder what the next reason for extending will be. Keep fishing & stay safe.
