Boating Tips For Cold Weather
Inshore we are catching red drum, black drum, plenty of speckled trout, croaker and Virginia mullet. In the surf people are catching speckled trout, some flounder, red drum, black drum, blues and Virginia mullet. On the piers they are catching Virginia mullet, blues, croakers and black drum. Offshore, people are catching king mackerel. On the bottom they are catching black bass, ringtails and grunts. This week’s fishing tip: This is more of a boating tip this week. If this cold weather has put an end to your boating for the year you need to do the following. Add some stable to your fuel, hook up your fresh water flushes, start up your motor and let it run for at least five minutes. If not they will condensate, oxidize and rust. If you have small portable fuel tanks, store them out of direct sunlight to prevent condensation. Trim motor all the way down. If not, water will fill the hub and if it freezes it might crack the hub. Then disconnect the battery. If you want to ensure that your motor will stay in good running condition you should start it up at least every two and a half to three months. If you follow these storage instructions it will save you some money in the spring. Keep fishing and stay safe. Captain John Carty
