King Mackerels And A Few Dolphin
Inshore, fishing has slowed up a bit this past week. We are still catching a few flounder, black drum, red drum, gray trout, Virginia mullet and croakers. Speckled trout fishing has been very good. In the surf we are still catching flounder, a few red drum, black drum, lots of blue fish, spots and a few Virginia mullet. On the piers we are catching spots, Virginia mullets, black drum and croakers. Offshore there have been good catches of king mackerel and still a few dolphin. Near shore on the bottom a few gray trout, grunts, ringtails, black bass, Virginia mullet and spots. Fishing tip of the week: I have been fishing since I was very young. My father was in the Air Force for 30 years and was a hunter and fisherman. So I had the opportunity to fish the Gulf of Florida, Swannee River, and lakes and rivers in Germany. When we move do to Carolina Beach in 1973 we realized from day one this was a fishing paradise. In the past few years I have paid close attention to fishing conditions. One day you can catch one right after the other and the next day nothing. The barometric pressure is one of the key elements. When the barometric pressure is dropping the fishing slows down. When the pressure is on the rise, the fishing picks up. There are other variables such as water temperature so go fishing before it gets too cold. Keep fishing and stay safe. Captain John Carty
