n the surf there are reports of puppy drum, flounder, blue fish, Virginia Mullet, croaker, black drum and still a few sheepshead. Offshore there are reports of king mackerel, Spanish mackerel, mahi mahi, sailfish and white marlin. On the bottom people are catching black bass, grunts, grouper, snapper, and some amberjack. Inshore we are catching speckled trout, red drum, flounder, croaker, large blue fish and sharks. This week’s fishing tip: If you have been inshore fishing in the last two weeks you have probably noticed our water is the color of tea. This is due to all the rain from tropical storm Ernesto. It will probably take about two more weeks of tides to get most of this fresh water out of the Cape Fear River, providing we don’t get any more heavy rains. Your better fishing spots will be near inlets or up around Masonboro Sound. Keep fishing and be safe. Captain John Carty Affordable Charters
