On the piers people are reporting catches of croaker, flounder, black drum, bluefish and sheepshead. In the surf, people are catching flounder, bluefish, puppy drum, croaker and Virginia Mullet. Inshore, people are reporting catches of large bluefish, speckled trout, red drum, flounder, croaker, Virginia Mullet and sheepshead. Offshore there are reports of king mackerel, Spanish mackerel, sailfish and dolphin. On the bottom there are reports of catches of amberjack, grouper, grunts, snapper and black bass. This week’s fishing tip is on shallow water fishing. It is very easy to spook fish out of a fishing hole in shallow water. So it is important to approach your spot quietly and slowly. Have your anchor ready and don’t throw it overboard. Let it down gently. Even dropping or slamming a cooler lid will scare fish away. Your boat is like an amplified drum. Talking loud or radios have no affect. Be sure you have a good anchor that won’t drag. Keep fishing and be safe. Captain John Carty Affordable Charters
