Carolina Beach Surf Fishing

On the piers people are reporting good catches of spots, flounder, Virginia mullet, blue fish, croaker and black drum. In the surf there are reports of spots, croaker, puppy drum, flounder, blue fish, black drum, pompano, Virginia mullet and sharks being caught. Offshore there are reports of king mackerel, dolphin, sailfish and Spanish mackerel being caught. For bottom fishing, people are catching grouper, snapper, black bass, grunts and grey trout. Inshore, we are catching speckled trout, red drum, flounder, croaker, spots, pigfish and large blue fish. This week’s fishing tip: Surf fishing has been very good this past week. Most surf fishermen will fish for flounder and red drum using minnow and cut bait. This can be a little slow at times. After you cast these rigs out, set the drag and put them in the rod holders. Then take a light action rod with a spot rig and use shrimp for bait. You should see lots of action while waiting for the big one. I went this past week and within one hour I caught spots, Virginia mullet, pompano and black drum. This is a sure way to put fish on the table and have a lot of fun. Keep fishing and stay safe.
