Fishing Report by Charlie’s Charters 8/28/14 flounder – red fish – speckled trout – black seabass – sharks

The weather has greatly improved and so has the fishing.  This past week we have had some really nice catches of citation flounder, red fish and blues.  With some of the red fish being over slot in the 30 inch range and are a real blast to catch on light tackle.  We have been catching most of our fish using live baits such as mud minnows  and live finger mullet on Carolina Rigs.    The speckled trout bite has also started to pick up using artificial DOAs, but will always fall for a live shrimp on a popping cork.    We have been catching most of the speckled trout around the islands in the Cape Fear River on a falling tide.  Due to this past weeks weather I have not had the opportunity to get off shore but the spanish mackerel bite should continue to be strong through October. Our nearby reefs will be producing some nice flounder, grey trout and big citation reds along with huge sharks.
