Cape Fear Guide Fishing Report

Cape Lookout Rock Jetty

Speckle Trout

Cape Lookout jetty has been producing speckle trout in large numbers the bite has been varying, some days the trout have been running from 14″ to 24″ then other days there have been great numbers of under sized speckle trout with a few  2 lb.  to 4 lb. speckle trout mixed in. I fished November 18Th with with Greg Dennis owner of the The Reel Outdoors, located in Emerald Isle, we met at the Dennis fish camp at Harkers Island which was just a short run to the Cape Lookout jetty, the bite started with Greg Dennis catching three under sized speckle trout, before I got the first strike,my first fish turned out to be a 6 lb. black drum, with in just a few minutes every one was catching speckle trout most of the fish were running 12″ to 13 1/2 “s just under the legal limit of 14″. The bite was steady most of the day, with only a few minutes through out the day that the trout were not biting.Curtis Elks and my father Bobby Dennis were also on-board these two old timers are truly great trout fishermen,Curtis landed two speckle trout around 3 lbs.with my father Bobby landing a 2 1/2 lb. speckle trout on the last cast of the day.
Lot’s of trout at Cape Lookout jetty, but there are lots of boats fishing there too, I counted 58 different boats that day, some days there may be as many as 100 boats competing for these fish.
